Educational Software Company Develops Internet (Online) FCAT Practice Test Sponsored by the Miami Dolphins

MVI Solutions development of a web-based educational software test that mimics the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test), the goal was to help students improve their math and reading skills before taking the FCAT. The educational software utilizes questions about the Miami Dolphins football team the belief is that these practice test while improving their critical and complex thinking skills.

Educational Software

MVI Solutions developed the online software educational practice test for Florida students to use in preparation for the upcoming FCAT exams by giving them practice answering math and reading questions. The educational software test will allow students to take sample test online and immediately see there results and earn a chance to receive Miami Dolphin memorabilia.

The online FCAT Educational Software practice test has a time limit and will automatically time out students after a specific amount of time. The educational software was engineered to handle several thousand visitors taking the test at anyone time. The project was conceived by Jeff Uchin, a local educator, using the name of Pro Sports Tutor, Inc. Twelve local schools will be utilizing the test initially. The online educational software practice test will grow rapidly by the number of schools and student wishing to take the practice FCAT test.

The Educational Software Opening

The educational software welcome page will be a QuickTime movie that contains an introduction to the test as well as test taking tips. There will be an example question with hints that the student will answer before the test begins. Once they are ready to begin the test, they will click the link to Begin Educational Software Practice FCAT Test. This link will send them to the Registration and login page.

The Educational Software Registration & Login

When the student goes to the FCAT educational software practice test, the student will register his name and school and grade. Each student must login first before they will be asked five registration questions, name, school, grade level and whether they have taken the test before and how many times. When they complete this form the database will send them the correct grade level 40 questions that will be randomly assigned from a base of 100 questions for math and reading. Each grade level of the FCAT educational practice test software will have its own pool of questions.

Educational Software Questions

A multiple-choice educational software test will begin and one question at a time will be displayed. The questions will pull from a bank of approximately 600 total questions. There will be 100 questions for each category (math and reading) and for each grade level (elementary, middle school and high school). The questions will be further categorized by question, i.e., punctuation, capitalization, etc. Each test will contain 40 math questions and 40 reading questions in random order. If the question is answered correctly or incorrectly, the test will continue to the next question. Jeff Uchin will be the administrator of the questions, meaning he will add them to the test via an administrative feature, and assign each a category for tracking purposes and to ensure that an even number of each type of question will be displayed during the randomizing process for each test taken.

When the educational software test is completed, the student's score will be displayed on the screen. A coded number will appear for the student to give to their teacher. It will contain a random number with letters, numbers and/or a phrase for security this number will contain name id, test results and school id. A notification will also be viewable to the Administrator in the admin section.

Once the student writes down the number and clicks "Next", the second part of the QuickTime movie will appear.

Educational Software Test Completion

The student will give their teacher the number issued after they finished the educational software test. The teacher will use this number to confirm that that student with a passing score took the test. The teacher will then issue the student a certificate with the student's name on it. The certificates will be printed on high-grade paper and distributed to the schools by the Miami Dolphins, and will contain Miami Dolphin autographs and whatever certificate design they choose.

Free gifts such as autographed Miami Dolphin merchandise will be distributed after a random drawing of student's names who have passed the test these names will listed on the website for the students claim their gifts.

The educational software site will also contain QuickTime movies developed by the client. The video will be a 2-part movie of TD. The 1st part will appear before the test and the second part will appear after the student takes and passes the test. The total time will be around 2- 4 minutes. Other graphics include a welcome splash page and congratulations graphic, after the students pass.
