Web Site Optimization
While you may have thought a great deal about the content of
your site, there are words, methods and even tricks that can
make a dramatic difference in the way a visitor sees your site
and the perception they have upon arriving. You also want them
to come back for more, even if they are not ready to be a customer.
Useful and informative content about your industry can have
an impact on return visits. Additionally, careful wording of
your content is imperative for high search engine rankings.
We at MVI Solutions are aggressive about marketing Web sites. What
we've noticed is that many sites are missing quality content.
What we mean by quality content is the words on your site that
search engine spiders can read and how they will use them to
rank your site. Spiders can't see images or how pretty your
Web site looks. A beautiful Web site is to attract consumers
into buying your service or products, but not getting you ranked.
So remember, search engine spiders do not care how beautiful
your site is; they rank you by what words they can read on your
Web site.
Without this good content or content pertaining to
your business then your site won't rank that well. Search engine
submission keeps you on the search engines and keeps your listing
fresh but without good content your rankings won't improve.
That's why when you're aggressively marketing your site you
need to tweak it adding different keywords into your text. Watching
the results in the following month's and if you don't rank that
well then change it again until you see results. Everyone's
goal is to be number one on the search engines but no one gets
there easily. Marketing a Web site is a continual process and
it takes time to be done correctly.
The content needs to have
the keyword in the body of the content you want to be ranked.
To rank high you need to have keywords on all pages of your
website. A general idea you should have is probably 1-2 keywords
per a hundred words (usually just one keyword per a hundred).
Bold text or excessive attention put on your keywords also makes
you rank higher. An example would be bigger text then the rest
of the text on your web page. Like this. It stands out.
Another thing search engine spiders rank high for are keywords in your
links. For example, a Web site is selling dog food. The opening
paragraph on the Web page has the keyword dog food in it some
place in the middle. Also make those two words (my keyword),
"dog food" a link going to my page that has a lot of text about
dog food. Not only will the search engines see that it's a keyword
in a link but they'll also see that it's actually a keyword
in a link leading to a page about the keyword ("dog food").
You'll also want text links on your page, even at the bottom
as a little navigation. Always put the keywords in as well.
Instead of making a link at the bottom like, "Products" you
could say something like, "Dog Food" or "Dog Food Products".
Another example is links at the bottom that say "Services".
You can always add your type of service in the link like, "Dog
Care Services" (assuming you also have dog care services). Little
changes like this can help optimize your Web site for search
engines.
All you have to do is design your Web site around your
keywords. If you use MS Word or something similar it will count
the number of words on the page for you so you'll know if you're
putting the right amount of keywords on per content. One warning.
Do not try to use more then 1-2 keywords for every hundred words.
Search engines consider it spamming.
